If you’re in Carrollton and wondering what’s happening for the Fourth this year, here’s the short version: the city’s annual fireworks show is happening a day early, on Friday, July 3, and it’s got some extra meaning behind it this time around.
The basics. The City of Carrollton’s free community fireworks display goes up over Josey Ranch Lake (1700 Keller Springs Road) starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3. The show runs about 15 minutes, which keeps things simple if you’re juggling kids, pets, or an early Saturday.
There’s no on-site event. This isn’t a festival with vendors and a stage. It’s a fireworks show, and the city wants you watching from your neighborhood or from one of the designated parking areas, not crowding the launch site itself. If you live anywhere near Josey Lane, McCoy Road, or Keller Springs, you’ve probably got a decent view without even leaving your street.
Best public viewing spots, if you want to make an evening of it: Josey Ranch Athletic Complex and Jimmy Porter Park both put you close enough to feel it without fighting for parking.
This year has a 250th Anniversary twist. Carrollton is tying this show into America’s 250th birthday, and the city’s setting up photo ops at Josey Ranch Sports Complex, Jimmy Porter Park, and Josey Ranch Lake on July 3 if you want a picture to mark the occasion.
Plan around the road closure. Keller Springs Road will be closed between Josey Lane and McCoy Road from 8:45 p.m. to approximately 10:15 p.m. If that’s part of your normal route home, give yourself an alternate path that night.
Weather backup plan. If the show gets rained out, the city has a backup date set for July 5 at the same time, same place. You can also text CFIREWORKS to 888777 for real-time updates if the weather looks iffy.
A reminder that matters: personal fireworks are illegal within Carrollton city limits, full stop, including the over-the-counter stuff like sparklers and bottle rockets. The city’s show is the one to watch.
One more thing if you’ve got pets. Fireworks night is rough on a lot of dogs and cats. Keep them inside, make sure tags and microchip info are current, and have a plan in case anyone bolts when the booms start.
Whether you’re grilling out, walking down to Josey Ranch, or just catching the show from your driveway, that’s Carrollton’s Fourth of July for 2026 in one read. Hope you find a good spot.
